POSITION OVERVIEW for Youth Programming Director
The Ministry with Youth is a vibrant and vital program within the life of First Presbyterian Church. This ministry oversees the daily operations of Christian formation and youth activities for approximately 300 children in grades 7-12. It seeks a dynamic, thoughtful, and visionary leader to serve as its Director and to build upon its current success.
The ideal candidate aligns with values of our church and would infuse creativity and energy in building upon our current youth ministry foundation. God's person for this role will confess Christ preeminent in all things (Colossians 1:18) and will live a life reflecting the Lordship of Christ. The Director shall possess the right competencies and initiative to lead with excellence, and is someone who desires, above all else, to sow seeds of faith and trust in these young lives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively loves the youth of the church as a ministry of Christ's love.
Serves as "the face" of the Youth Ministry to students, parents, leaders, and the congregation.
Designs and establishes the Youth Ministry's strategic vision, values, and goals in accordance with the Mission Statement of the church.
Serves the Youth Ministry in an administrative capacity responsible for the day-to-day operations.
o Maintains managerial responsibility for approximately 4 direct report staff members. In
coordination with Personnel and Pastoral Staff, is responsible for interviewing, selecting,
supervising, and evaluating staff members.
o Works with the FPC Finance staff to create the annual budget, and manages departmental
spending.
o In conjunction with FPC Pastoral Staff, Human Resources, and other church leadership, creates
policy and procedures that ensures the highest quality Christian education and nurture.
o Attends regular staff meetings and appropriate committee and council meetings.
Is responsible for creative development and execution of all youth programming including small groups, Sunday school, worship, and youth mission trips/retreats.
Provides spiritual enrichment and direction to the youth staff.
Assists the youth staff with volunteer recruiting and development, as needed.
Ensures that lively and healthy communication mechanisms are in place that keep all stakeholders informed and engaged with the FPC youth and youth ministry.
Builds cooperative bridges between the Youth Ministry and other ministries of First Presbyterian Church.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Biblical fluency, theological literacy in the Reformed Tradition, and a gifting and passion to share the gospel of Jesus with youth and families.
Strong leadership, strategic thinking, organizational, communication, project management, and
interpersonal skills.
o Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
o Clear and effective communication skills.
Empathetic leader capable of demonstrating compassion and understanding.
Must be proficient in basic computer skills.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises 3 full-time youth staff members, 1 administrative assistant, as well as seasonal youth intern employees.
