Director of Music and Worship Arts
Purpose: The Director of Music and Worship Arts will create a unified vision for worship that glorifies the Triune God, proclaims the infallible Word of God, and provides a platform to help people know and worship Jesus Christ. This will be accomplished by musically leading, equipping, and shepherding musicians and worship arts staff and volunteers. He/she will work alongside the Pastoral staff to direct the worship planning process.
Accountability: The Director of Music and Worship Arts is under the supervision of the Lead Pastor. The Director will work alongside his/her supervisor, staff members, and committee leaders on behalf of the congregation. The Director of Music and Worship Arts is subject to the review of the Session through the Lead Pastor and the Personnel Committee.
Description/Responsibilities:
Vision Under the direction of the Lead Pastor, capture the vision and philosophy of utilizing music and arts in worship as articulated by the Elders. Communicate and implement that vision and philosophy of worship while working alongside staff and a broad collection of volunteers. Develop a long-range worship plan in cooperation with the Lead Pastor, including major seasonal worship events and various worship arts opportunities or special services that may fulfill FPCE's vision. Envision, craft, and create new worship opportunities that will serve FPCE's vision.
Leadership Play a leading, collaborative role in weekly worship planning meetings with staff and team members. The Director of Music and Worship Arts will be a part of the Worship Band in a participatory or leadership role as they deem most appropriate for the advancement of worship and creativity. The Director of Music and Worship Arts will participate in the Chancel Choir in a participatory role as deemed appropriate or in the absence of the Assist Director: Choral Music lead the chancel choir when necessary. Oversee, empower, and manage with worship staff including, but not limited to, the following: Assistant Director: Choral Music, Sound Engineer, and Organist. Facilitate growth in Christ among those involved in the ministry of worship and the arts. Attend weekly staff meetings, weekly worship planning meetings, and monthly worship committee meetings. Incorporate the arts into our worship services where appropriate, by stimulating and encouraging drama and visual arts personnel.
Collaboration Coordinate and recruit paid and volunteer musicians, and other appropriate volunteers as necessary to perform the calling of the position. Will work alongside of the Digital and Print Media Specialists to create an appropriate Worship atmosphere. Work with the Director of Youth Ministries and Director of Kids Ministry to create/develop engaging youth worship.
Management Oversee copyright compliance by church administrative personnel. Oversee music resource maintenance by various music and administrative personnel. Oversee and manage the Worship and Music Arts budget.
Qualifications: Be a committed follower of Jesus Christ and seek to serve His kingdom. Must be a servant and team player, seeking the overall good of FPCE. Have a passion for worship facilitated and enhanced by a vibrant devotional and prayer life. Be familiar with and supportive of many different worship styles and be knowledgeable of a wide body of music worship literature. Have a pastoral sense for mentoring and developing worship leadership and gifts in others. Possess musical gifts and be knowledgeable in the use of worship arts and their application. Possess a degree in music and possess experience in worship creation. Express a willingness and desire to become deeply enmeshed in the life, ministry, fellowship, and mission of FPCE.
