“And they came into the house and saw the Child with Mary His Mother; and they fell down and worshiped Him; and opening their treasures they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.” Matthew 2:11
If there is one form of worship missing in our churches today, it’s the willingness to bow before the Lord. I’m not talking about the “bowing of our hearts” or a “spirit” of bowing; I’m talking about literally bowing on our knees. Why is it that we have such a difficult time doing this?
Throughout the Bible, there are many instances in which bo...read more
"Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship." "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers." (John 4:20, 23 NASB)
When I really took a close look at the who, when, where, why, and how questions surrounding praise & worship, I found it interesting that the Word of God answers all of those questions on the praise side; but not on the worship side. Thus far in my Christian...read more
Psalm 103:1 “Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.”
Sometimes when I begin to think I understand what God meant by worshiping Him, I find a new area that hits me between the eyes. There are all the usual ways in our private and corporate worship but have you ever thought about your life being a praise to God? What joy He must find in His creation choosing to love and worship Him because they want to, that they choose to live in such a way as to bring honor to His name. Find out what God had in mind when He created you. Ar...read more
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Hebrews 12:1 (KJV)
You've seen devotionals from me that deal specifically with the varying reasons we do (or should) praise and worship God, but I thought it fitting to start off the year with a series of meditations about why we don't.
In his lifetime, Bro. Glen Burleigh shared with us all of the God-given musical genius that...read more
Psalm 66:8-10 “Praise our God, O peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard; he has preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping. For you, O God, tested us; you refined us like silver.”
Call me insane, but I have this fetish (some have been so insensitive as to call it derangement!) - I love to clean house. I love the feeling of what I can accomplish and things being put back to a semblance of order. I enjoy sitting back and seeing the finished product, but the getting there was where I found my greatest satisfaction. I believe our hearts and o...read more
Psalm 119:108 “Accept, O lord, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws.”
Worship had always seemed a cut and dried subject until I really started to delve into what it was. Study revealed some new aspects of worship to me, but for the most part I already knew the fundamentals. What I learned that was unexpected was the emotions involved. It’s a little hard to truly worship the Creator of All and not be overwhelmed with the significance of who God is. Worship is becoming more than just singing praise songs, it’s becoming more aware of how w...read more
Isaiah 59:1, 2 “Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.”
What do you think of when you consider being humbled and contrite? You can usually gauge the amount of repentance in your child’s heart when you see their countenance and look deep within their eyes. I have a daughter who would always cry when I looked deep in her eyes if she had done wrong. Usually when we were at the point where the...read more

Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, Thou art very great; He makes the clouds His chariot; He walks upon the wings of the wind; (Psalm 104: 1, 3)
I could have called this one "The Hope We Can Have. . .". But I purposely chose to leave out the words "we can" here because saying "we can have" raises the whether or not questions. Saying what we "can" have raises doubt in our minds sometimes and might leave the door open to the possibility that I "can't" have it. But when I say what I already have, then there is no room for doubt, questions, u...read more
Hebrews 12:28-29 “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.”
Occasionally you will read in the newspaper or hear on the television about people dying in house fires, unable to be rescued because of the intense fire and heat. My heart breaks as I wonder how it would feel to be driven back by a force greater than yourself, knowing your loved ones were facing certain death without intervention. Jesus not only conquered the
