Position Title: Director of Congregational Life
Work Role: To assist the Congregational Life Committee by overseeing all active ministries throughout the church and reporting the needs, concerns and welfare of those serving inside of the ministries. To encourage, guide and shepherd the congregation at SPEP, who are called to lead in various ministries. To supervise the Directors of Middle School, High School and Children's ministry, effectively making them a unified team who glorifies Christ in that work.
Mission: The mission of the church staff is to support the church in achieving the vision of being "a church where Jesus mends broken lives with the goodness of God, and equips us to join him in his work." This support can involve supporting and motivating, encouraging and equipping the saints to become personally involved in Christian ministry.(Ephesians 4:11-13)
Work Schedule: Full Time
Qualifications:
Godly character and personal integrity
Bachelor's degree
Able to pass a background investigation
Willing to become a member of SPEP
Experience: This position requires a minimum of 10 years of experience as a senior leader in ministries. Possession of a Bachelor's Degree in a ministry-related field is preferred. The successful individual must have a proven track record of effective leadership, judgment, and above reproach character. This individual must be an effective communicator with experience training and discipling others.
Theology: The successful candidate has carefully read the Westminster Confession of Faith (WCF), and is able to describe to the Session at what points, if any, their theological views differ from the WCF. The candidate will not be required to explain, support or justify their theological views.
Skills:
Excellent relational skills borne of a love and concern for God's people
Good communications skills, both oral and written
Self-starter able to motivate others to pursue and use their gifts.
Demonstrated pastoral skills
Responsibilities:
Work with the Directors of Middle, High School and Children's Ministry to develop a comprehensive discipleship plan (from birth to death) for SPEP.
o Help integrate children and students into the life of the church.
o Develop a unified program of instruction for children, youth and adults.
Supervise the Directors of Middle, High School and Children's Ministry to develop leadership development plans for children, youth, and college ministries.
Oversight of all active ministries: Assist in developing, supervise and train leaders for ministries such as (this is not an exhaustive list but a representative listing various examples of ministry):
o Adult Sunday School
o Counseling
o Couples ministries
o Divorce Care
o DUO
o Empty nesters
o First year marriage mentorship
o Food Chain
o Men's ministry
o Mentorship for expectant parents
o MOPs
o Parents of teens
o Pre-marital counseling
o Resource Center/Library
o Seniors
o Single moms
o Small groups
o Widows & Singles
o Women's Advocates
o Women's ministry
o Young Adults
Be a point of contact for family strife and work closely with the Peacemaking Team.
Support Congregational Care
Participate in Session regularly by providing monthly reports of the work The Lord is doing throughout the various ministries at SPEP, to the Congregational Life Committee and the Session.
Assist members of Pastoral staff who provide:
o 24/7 coverage for congregational emergencies.
o Pray for and with the congregation.
Reporting: The Director of Congregational Life reports directly to the Session Congregational Life Committee. Problems that cannot be resolved there will be referred up through the organizational structure for resolution at the lowest possible level.
Expectations: The expectations for the Director of Congregational Life are these:
o To serve each ministry equally by encouraging each ministry leader/leadership team.
o To unify and manage their subordinates with exemplary leadership, constant prayer, wholesome fellowship where they can administer the grace that Christ provides to make them an effective team.
o To celebrate over growing new ministries where they might encourage and shepherd the leaders of those ministries, and quietly mourn the passing of ineffective or expiring ministries as a mature Christian, knowing Christ is still at work.
o To be an effective communicator with the Session and the congregation as to the life of the ministries developing.
