Apply for This Job Sr. Pastor The First Baptist Church Johnstown, NY Posted: March 18, 2025     Job Information: THE CALL: First Baptist Church is prayerfully seeking a full-time Pastor to lead and shepherd our congregation. He will be able to attest to being a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and his call to pastoral ministry. The candidate must meet the qualifications in Scripture (1 Tim 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9) and adhere to the Baptist faith. A bachelor's degree or 3-year degree in Biblical studies with accompanying ministry experience is required. We desire a Pastor/Shepherd with courage and godly character to lead us into the next season of ministry in our Church and the wider community. THE CHURCH: We are an independent Baptist Church that has been an active part of the spiritual life of our community since 1795. We are dispensational in our approach to scriptural exegesis. We believe that the first eleven chapters of Genesis are actual history and we teach a pre-tribulation rapture and literal 1,000 year reign of Christ on Earth. POSITION DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS: Our Pastor will provide leadership and spiritual oversight for all Church ministries, worship and finances. He will provide the primary teaching and preaching and direct all other preaching and teaching ministries. The Pastor should possess the ability to communicate a clear spiritual vision and promote, organize, and wisely delegate as needed. He will demonstrate respectful, godly behavior and attitude in planning and conducting services, committee meetings, supervising volunteers and team development. We seek someone who holds firmly to the literal tenets of biblical interpretation and an expository approach to preaching and teaching God's Word, with the aim of evangelism and equipping the saints. He must also pursue God in personal prayer and encourage others to do likewise. The Pastor should value the intelligence, wisdom and gifts of the members and give them room to develop and use their qualities and spiritual gifts within the Church in a spirit of gentleness. He will be available for mentoring, counseling, accountability, and guidance without excessive micromanagement as members learn and grow in their gifts and service. FACILITIES: The church building is well-maintained with the Sanctuary newly renovated in 2020. We are debt-free, with moderate savings for future capital improvements or specific needs.
