First Baptist Church of Kenova
Kenova, KY
Posted: May 30, 2023

Job Information:
The congregation of First Baptist Church of Kenova is searching for a man to faithfully serve full time as Lead Pastor. He must meet all of the biblical qualifications for an elder/overseer in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:7-9. Masters level education or higher is strongly desired as is some experience in a lead pastor or associate pastor position. Ultimately, candidates will be judged by their ability to carry out the required duties of the office in a manner that honors the Lord. Doctrinal Distinctives We generally affirm the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 and the 1689 London Baptist Confession, while holding to dispensational/progressive dispensational hermeneutic and a premillennial eschatological understanding. Missions For a number of years, we have been one of the top missions-giving churches in our state convention. We are currently giving 19% of our budget to missions. We consider our mission budget to be "the first check we write." Children & Youth Ministry As a church, we are deeply committed to nurturing a love for the Lord in our children. We currently have two full time staff positions devoted to coordinating discipleship and outreach for ages pre-K through 18 year olds. FBCK has an AWANA program and youth ministry called "The Garage." Both ministries have a host of parent volunteers and continually prove to be fruitful. A majority of the members of our church have either volunteered in or directly benefited from these ministries. In addition to our children's and youth ministries, the FBCK cultivates a culture that encourages families to educate and instill a Biblical worldview in our children. Fellowship Through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, our church body truly does demonstrate a love for one another, being purposeful in breaking down dividing walls in our congregation. We have a reputation for loving like Jesus and living our faith. We have a well-attended fellowship dinner open to the entire church every Wednesday night. Following the fellowship dinners, our church meets in small groups all over our campus. Sunday Morning Worship We currently have two services (9:00 & 11:15) consisting of expository preaching and contemporary music. We value an overall expository teaching method from the whole counsel of God's Word, understanding that all scripture is God-breathed. Our adult Sunday school classes meet in between services. We encourage didactic teaching methods, recognizing difficult questions, examined in the light of the Word, lead to deeper understanding and deeper understanding to greater praise. Sunday Evening Worship Sunday evening is when our children participate in AWANA and "The Garage." During this time, we have an adult Bible study that has traditionally been led by the Lead Pastor. Leadership We currently have three lay Shepherds and fifteen Deacons, both on rotating committees. Our staff consists of a full-time Children's Director, a full-time Youth Director, a part-time Music Director, a Church Secretary, a Financial Secretary, and a volunteer Pastoral Care Minister. Location Kenova is the "Western Gate to the Moutain State", just a 10 minute drive to the center of Huntington, WV and Ashland, Kentucky. The Tri-State area itself is largely made up of small-town communities with a population of over 350,000 in the metropolitan area. This makes the region a desirable area that combines a small-town community-centered mindset with enough of a population to support many of the resources only available in a larger city. In 2017, Huntington was named "America's Best Community." Duties & Expectations The Lead Pastor will be a member of the Council of Shepherds and his responsibilities will include but not be limited to: -Supervising church staff. -Accurately interpreting and effectively communicating the Bible in preaching and didactic teaching formats. -Shepherding members of various ages, talents, and abilities well. -Administering the ordinances of Baptism and communion in keeping with Biblical teaching. -Officiating weddings and funerals for members and friends of the church. -Developing and maintaining ministries conducive to spiritual and numerical growth. -Providing pastoral care and counseling. -Discipling and training the future leadership of the church. -Identifying and strategically addressing the needs of the church. -Nurturing fellowship and unity within the church. -Protecting the congregation by engaging in Biblical church discipline with a goal of reconciliation. -Overseeing and, when needed, implementing community outreach efforts. -Engagement in and relative proximity of residence to the Ceredo-Kenova community. -Maintaining reasonable availability through agreed upon office hours. -Engaging in and receiving constructive feedback with deference and humility. -Actively participating in developing a vision for the future of our church body.
