The Contemporary Worship Leader plans and leads all music for the weekly contemporary service (The Harbor Service) at Rocky River United Methodist Church. This individual coordinates with the Pastoral Team, Director of Music, Technical Director, and Praise Team to present a dynamic and cohesive worship experience to the congregation.
Essential Job Functions: Plan and lead all music for The Harbor Service. Create and maintain a unique and proficient musical environment. Elevate the message and worship experience each week through dynamic musicianship, clear leadership, and creative musical arrangements. Direct the congregants in music participation. Recruit, schedule, and lead a team of musicians who will comprise the Praise Team (worship band) each Sunday. Rehearse the Praise Team weekly, with a spirit of inclusion and responsiveness to the musicianship levels of all involved. Hold weekly rehearsals for the Praise Team. Rehearsals traditionally have been held on Thursday evenings, and Sunday mornings. Creatively respond to the Pastor's message and/or current sermon series for each week. Select special music as necessary for monthly communion services or other times when necessary. Coordinate essential musical materials (e.g. scores, lyrics, charts, etc.) and disseminate them to individuals as needed. Promote a safe, collaborative, and positive environment within the Praise Team and the RRUMC community Serve with enthusiasm as a member of a Christ-centered, mission-driven team. Administrative Requirements: Effective and efficient communication to all Harbor team members with weekly reminders of necessary activities for the Sunday service. Distribution of song selection in a timely manner before rehearsals to allow for band member preparation. Preparation of quarterly worship schedules covering the band members, and other staff members. Attend RRUMC staff meetings if available.
Starting Wage: up to $20.00 per hour
Qualifications: 1- 3 years of experience in leading contemporary worship services. Strong vocal skills. Strong instrumental skills. Very high degree of musical literacy. Able to command attention and tell a story. Able to share musical knowledge with others who present at a variety of skill levels. Able to creatively arrange music. Able to articulate information and ideas clearly. Able to mobilize and utilize teams of volunteers. Able to pass a background check. A commitment to RRUMC's mission, vision, and goals.
Skills: Effective verbal communication in one-on-one and large group settings. Effective written communication. Ability to read, write and understand English. Good interpersonal skills and active listening ability. Excellent organization skills. Strong computer and technology skills. Proficiency, or a willingness to learn, Planning Center (service planning software platform), and CCLI SongSelect (music database). Ability to work independently.
Accountability: Regular updates with the Senior Pastor and Director of Music regarding essential job functions and areas of responsibilities within the church. Beliefs: Have a deep and growing relationship with Christ. Physical Demands: While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee is required to hear and communicate. The employee is required to sit and stand. They must be able to perform the physical actions of their chosen instrument. The vision requirements to perform this job include close, medium, and long distance vision. Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to closed and public workspaces. They will be in an acoustically active environment where volumes may, intentionally or unintentionally, become loud.
