About Mission Hills & the family ministry. We are a four-year-old church start-up with a dedicated approach to making faith and community accessible. We currently meet at 10:00am on Sunday's via Zoom. Prior to quarantine, we met at 4:00pm on Sunday's in the Fellowship Hall of Ascension Lutheran Church in NW Hills. Our hope is to secure time and space to move to a Sunday morning. We hosted three separate classes for pre-K, K-3rd grade, & 4-5th grades utilizing The Gospel Project Curriculum. Pre-K childcare is available for the entire service. Kids are part of worship and dismissed prior to the message. Classroom time is approximately 45-50 minutes. During quarantine, we started a kid's church from 9:30-10am. The current role is, using the Gospel Project Curriculum, share a bible story (via video or teaching) then prepare a Kahoot game quiz at the end. We hope to begin meeting in person mid-November.
Leadership Description: Coordinate and shepherd rotation of paid and volunteer workers through regular meetings during the month and correspondence. Create a leadership ‘huddle' with volunteers for prayer and lesson preview 20 minutes before start of service. Oversee family/child registration, updated current database. Establish regular volunteer training for volunteers on curriculum and protocols. Order & schedule new curriculum; purchase supplies and equipment as needed. Oversee background security checks for all workers. Support outward-focused initiatives (ie ‘Lab' wkds) for kids and families to engage faith. Organize childcare as needed for additional meetings. Meet/communicate regularly with Pastor
Looking ahead to 2021: In addition to regular in person meeting for worship and organizing children's classes on the 2nd & 4th Sunday's... The first weekend of the month is reserved for a "Church-as-Laboratory", which seeks to make faith & community accessible. It's also to encourage our people to ‘experiment' with faith through hospitality, generosity, compassion, community, and apprenticing. The Third Sunday of each month, we're introducing "Worship On Location". In an effort to grow a more local presence across Austin and promote Tribes, we plan to launch three house worship meetings. The idea is to provide live worship, on-site teaching, & children's ministry at each home. It would require a children's director willing to teach/lead three times (&/or train volunteers to lead) on the third Sunday morning. These would be one-hour long meetings at 9, 10, & 11:00am in north, central, and southwest Austin. At each house, we would worship together (20 min) then dismiss kids to a kid's lesson (25 min), while adults have their own message.
Hours & Compensation: 30 hours/month = $750/month This position is for local applicants.
