Wait

Psalm 40: 1-3 “I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our god. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.”

Can you say that you wait patiently for the Lord, or are you like me when I ask and expect an immediate answer? This is the generation of fast food, ATM’s, and instant gratification. To wait patiently is not exactly how I would characterize our generation. The sad thing about our response to God’s answers to our prayers is that we don’t recognize them for what they are. A definite no or a rain-check means that He still knows what is best for us. A positive answer is not God’s affirmation of His love to us. Our timing is not God’s timing, and how often He has to prove that one over and over again! We will probably never completely know how many people we influence by our reactions to God’s answers to our prayers. Does your reaction cause others to see and fear and put their trust in the Lord, or does your skepticism plant seeds of doubt in their already defensive minds?
