Do you remember when your Mother called you by your full name, you knew she meant business. Whatever had been so important, suddenly rose on the importance scale about 10 notches when she resorted to the whole three names drawn out slowly and emphasized in case your hearing had really diminished. The same thing applies to the Lord’s command to Joshua when he was getting ready to take the children of Israel across the Jordan River into the Promised Land. Three times in the span of 9 verses He says, “Be strong and courageous”. How well He knows our shortcomings and how easily we forget. Even though the Promised Land would be all that they had dreamed, and thought, and talked about for 40 years, there were still going to be obstacles and those that didn’t want them there. But, praise God, read the end of the verse, “..for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
