Lose Your Religion
By Donna Patrick - Women in Worship - July 03, 2009
| | Many of us have heard the expression spoken, usually in anger “She/He almost made me lose my
religion!” Or in a temptation scenario when we were just about to give that person a piece
of our minds, we’ve used the same words. It all boils down to some situation where we’ve been
made so angry or became so agitated that we almost did something we would not normally do.
I would like to put a twist on that statement we sometimes make – even in jest. What if you
really did lose your religion? Not out of anger, or any other emotional upset. Suppose you...read more |
Overcomer
By Debbi Barnett - Women in Worship - June 14, 2009
| | A friend of mine recently visited our church to update us on his evangelistic efforts on Prince Edward Island in Canada. Two and a half years ago he and his family were commissioned and sent out as missionaries to plant a church there. He spoke to us of the wonderful things the Lord was and is doing amidst the people on the Island and what God was doing for his family personally. The testimonies he shared were awesome and were living proof that God is faithful to spread His gospel and take care of His servants as they follow Him.
There was one testimony that st...read more |
Are We Willing?
By Darlene Thorne - Women in Worship - June 08, 2009
| | None of us are exempt from living a life of worship. Too many people think that worship is just for the time we spend in church. They call it a worship service. But in reality, we only begin to worship on that Sunday morning or Saturday nights for some. God desires us to become exclusive worshipers to our Father. It is our responsibility as believers to be those worshipers God seek.
Everything we do must be directed to God. It must truly come out of our spirit. We must worship Him in spirit and in truth. The Bible says that, “The hour has come and now ...read more |
Don’t Let Go of the Promise
By Darlene Thorne - Women in Worship - June 03, 2009
| | So many times in our lives we are tempted to give up. It would appear the very thing we are trying to achieve is at war with us. It was a promise given to us by God but it doesn’t appear to happening like we thought it should. We want to get out of debt, yet we run into unexpected challenges that put us further back. We want to go to school, but there is no money available and your job isn’t willing to reimburse you for your classes. You want to have another child yet your doctor gives you the diagnosis that having another child is next to impossible. When we get...read more |
The Samaritan Women
By Debbi Barnett - Women in Worship - May 31, 2009
| | I have been in many conversations about worship, and music is almost always included in the conversation. Interestingly enough, John 4:1-38 usually comes up in a discussion about worship. Knowing that, what truths can we derive from this powerful passage of scripture about what worship is, and what it's not? How can we become the true worshipers that the Father desires? How does it affect our worship leading?
Most of us will agree that John 4:1-38 is about worship. However, we don’t see anything about music mentioned. We read that the Samaritan woman has a li...read more |
Keep On Keepin On
By Debbi Barnett - Women in Worship - May 28, 2009
| | Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Heb 10:23-25 (NIV)
It happens to every team and every Worship Leader and/or Pastor. We must deal with someone on the team that falls away for one reason or another. Whether it is a family matter, job situation, just tired of the responsibilities of the team or sin, it is our job to encourage the saints, which also in...read more |
Quick Change Artist Worshiper
By Terri Pettyjohn - Women in Worship - May 25, 2009
| | As a mother and wife, I can go from being counselor, bank advisor, parole officer, head chef, lawn care specialist, and nurse in ten seconds or less. Any woman with children has the know-how and God-given talent to access new situations, file a contingency plan, and implement an infrastructure while most men are still scratching their heads. No offense, my fine male counterparts! While these abilities can save many a family from instantaneous combustion, when we enter the church for corporate worship, we would do better to lose the game plan.
Let me explain. ...read more |
Male/Female Worship Relationships
By Debbi Barnett - Women in Worship - May 23, 2009
| | Are you having any challenges or concerns with any of the male members on your worship team? Perhaps you have run into a snag in the relationship between you and your Pastor. As a woman in submission to authority, we must learn to work together with our male counterparts. On the other hand, as a woman in leadership we have been handed the authority over men in our care. Perhaps you are a support vocalist or musician on the team. Whatever your situation, what type of relationship should we have with these guys?
If we get too close, we open up a door for “stupi...read more |
Change the Focus
By Darlene Thorne - Women in Worship - May 14, 2009
| | In recent worship services at our church we have been experiencing an awesome move of God. The congregation has been so open to worshipping. Our worship team prays for this to happen in our rehearsal times and each time before we minister during our weekly services. However, I began to really see something different. I opened my eyes and really LOOKED at the congregation, and what I saw was so incredible.
I was looking at the hearts of people who are truly hungry for the Lord. Not the usual, “I’m here at church because it’s the thing to do on Sunday”, but a ...read more |
The Artist Heart
By Debbi Barnett - Women in Worship - May 11, 2009
| | I’ve been pretty busy administrating our Worship Department by making sure the song lists are prepared, the musicians and vocalists are scheduled to play at each service, and that my meetings with Pastor are productive - and so on and so on. My “to do list” gets longer and longer and things always come up that I can’t get to right away. I don’t even have time for myself these days. What’s a girl to do! I like getting my hair, nails and feet done, but I want to be the first one in and I want to be out of there in an hour. They say “your hairdresser knows all,” but m...read more |
