Job Description:
Principle Function: The Director of Contemporary Worship shall plan and direct the Heart, Mind and Spirit worship service in a way that is consistent with our mission, values and theology.
Reports to: The Director of Contemporary Worship reports to the Pastor who, by virtue of his/her office, is charged with the responsibility of ordering and directing all services of worship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary emphasis will be leadership in the development of music and HMS music teams for the new Heart, Mind and Spirit Worship Service. The Director of Contemporary Worship shall be responsible for choosing and providing technically proficient music that fits the abilities of music teams and congregation and supports the mood and theme of the service as determined by the Pastor. He/she shall recruit, schedule, and coordinate members of the HMS Music Teams.
Ensure that lyric presentations (including verse and chorus placement) for Sunday Morning Worship are correct for presentation, whether in Media Shout, Power Point, overhead sheets or printed materials.
Development and oversight of all sound, lighting, media, graphics, drama, staging and arts to enhance the Heart, Mind and Spirit worship experience
Recruit and direct youth ensembles
Coordinate with the Director of Music for rehearsal times and use of volunteers
Work as part of a worship planning team that includes the pastor and other worship leaders and technicians as appropriate.
Attend all regularly scheduled and special meetings with the pastor and staff
Support presentation of musical/dramatic productions for special occasions
Be comfortable leading with a variety of styles of music - versatility.
Maintain awareness and understanding of Christian music trends.
Identify and integrate new songs in to Church repertoire.
Oversee copyright licensing & compliance.
Prepare and timely submit an annual budget for the HMS worship
Meet monthly with Pastor for oversight and encouragement; Attend and report progress to the Consistory when requested.
Other duties as assigned by the pastor.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated Christian character and commitment in daily life and the ability to articulate a personal faith journey
Respectful of and sensitive to the principles and traditions of the United Church of Christ.
A gifted musician and leader who is fluent with contemporary music and styles and modern hymns and is also sensitive to and respectful of traditional liturgical worship styles.
Worshipfully lead songs both instrumentally (keyboard/piano preferred, but guitar is acceptable) and vocally.
Educational background and experience in leading musical groups.
