Job Description:
Timber Ridge Community Church in Kirksville, MO, currently has an opening for the position of fulltime or bi-vocational pastor. Timber Ridge is a contemporary non-denominational church with an average attendance of 150 to 200 people. We voluntarily affiliate with the Southern Baptist Convention in its national, state, and local expressions, and with the Willow Creek Association.
The mission statement of Timber Ridge is "To do whatever it takes to turn irreligious people into fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ in our community and throughout the world." The members of Timber Ridge work to accomplish this mission by being a contemporary, seeker-sensitive church that sees its five-fold purpose in the activities of evangelism, education, worship, ministry, and fellowship. The Church also operates on a "Purpose-Driven" model, as described in the book, "The Purpose Driven Church," by Rick Warren.
The main qualifications that are sought in potential candidates are the Biblical qualifications for an elder as specified in I Timothy 3, Titus 1, and I Peter 5:1-4. We also seek candidates that possess strong leadership abilities and are committed to the specific mission of Timber Ridge. Some of the duties of the pastor include, but are not limited to the following.
The pastor will be the primary teacher for the worship services of the church, and will be responsible for finding speakers for days that he is absent.
The pastor will be the "moderator" of the church.
To cast vision for the congregation and for the leadership of the church. This will entail thinking of new ministry strategies for the church.
To designate the trustees of the church. The trustees will be approved by the members at the annual membership meeting.
To oversee the training of the ministry leaders and the "equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry."
To assist in the recruiting of leaders of the various ministries of the church.
