TITLE: Christian Education Director VISION OF THE CHURCH: The First Presbyterian Church is a diverse community. With faith and hope we seek the peace of God through Jesus the Christ. PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: To work under the direction of the Session, the Senior Minister, and the Christian Education Committee to plan, organize, and direct the Christian Education ministry for all ages; to train lay leaders for the task of teaching and leading Christian Education, and to lead the youth program. We are interested in individuals who seek to transform our congregation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong commitment to the Christian faith and passionate about reformed theology
Experienced in, and enthusiastic about Christian education
Experienced in youth programs
Understands the history and polity of the Presbyterian Church or be willing to attend courses to gain this understanding
Background in biblical studies, education theory and theology
Energetic personality with creative ideas, organizational and diplomatic skills, and positive attitude
Ability to work with people and have concern for their nurture as disciples of Jesus Christ
Willing to participate in community activities and projects
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Church School
Oversee Sunday Morning education for all ages
Coordinate the recruiting and training of teachers, leaders, and other volunteers
Provide support to teachers, leaders, and other volunteers
Evaluate and recommend curricula including new program initiatives
Youth Leadership
Provide local and distant mission opportunities for youth
Provide resources, guidance, supervision and support to youth leaders in all their ministries
Integrate youth into congregational responsibilities, such as committees, choir, services, etc.
Assist Senior Minister with care and counseling for youth
Families
Provide family ministry programs to assist parents in raising their children in a healthy, Christian environment; provide resources for spiritual nurture
Communicate with parents through newsletters, announcements, group meetings and home visits
Assist Senior Minister with Confirmation Class
Work with Senior Minister in developing adult education educational opportunities
Special Programming
Plan and oversee Children's Church with clergy
Organize small group's ministry
Plan and oversee the Christmas program
Develop and implement Advent programs with staff
Develop and implement Lenten programs with staff
Develop and assist with Vacation Bible School
