Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church of Ridgefield (CT) is seeking a full time Music Minister to join our warm and inviting, spirit-filled church family. The Music Minister will provide visionary and organizational leadership in developing a comprehensive music program to meet the diverse needs of our congregation and surrounding community. He/she will coordinate all activities related to Jesse Lee's music ministry including adult, children, and youth music programs in traditional, contemporary, and blended worship settings.
The role requires an energetic team player, innovator, and initiator, with a deep personal faith in Christ. We are searching for someone who has a calling to help build a dynamic music environment that enlivens members' worship experiences and attracts the unchurched. This is a new, full-time position with some flexibility to start part-time and expand to full-time.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide leadership for all aspects of the church's music ministry
Develop and align music ministry goals with JLMUMC's mission/vision and work with the Senior Pastor and others to develop ways to achieve those goals
Assist the pastors and others in planning worship services of the church and in selecting music that will enhance the worship experience
Develop both traditional, contemporary and blended music ministries—while helping to build a bridge between different forms of worship
Help others develop their God-given musical gifts and passions
Develop leaders for various areas of music ministries—e.g., ensembles, bell choir, children's choir
Provide spiritual support/counsel where needed for those involved in leadership roles in the church's music program
Recruit vocal and instrumental talents
Conduct musical workshops and/or seminars
Assist in the budget preparation and the administration of the music ministry
Qualifications:
Ability to lead and draw people into joyful music/worship experiences
Ability to work enthusiastically and effectively with people of all ages/backgrounds
Optimally 5+ years of full-time music ministry/Christian music experience (including choral conducting) as well as spiritual leadership
Musically skilled and experienced vocally and instrumentally with capability to equip and lead a variety of worship ministries
Well versed in many genres of music—both traditional and contemporary
Ability to train music leaders and/or musicians
Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
Strong organization skills
Experience incorporating multi-media into worship experiences desired
B.A. degree in music or related major (e.g., music education, theory, composition, performance) preferred
Seminary or some theological education desired, not required.
