The Korean Methodist Church & Institute, a growing, historic congregation on Manhattan's Upper West Side, New York, is seeking two part-time ministers for the Children's and Young Adult Group Ministry positions. KMCI is a dynamic 300 member congregation that was established in 1921. The church is located at the center of a vibrant and liberal environment; we are surrounded by Columbia University, Teacher's College, Union Theological Seminary, Manhattan School of Music, Juilliard School of Music. KMCI has been developing exciting ministries to meet the needs of a diverse constituency, which include a Korean language ministry for young adults and an English language speaking ministry for Korean-Americans. KMCI is seeking pastors to meet the needs of children and young adults in the 21st century.
We seek a pastor who will possess strong leadership and management skills, a passion for children, and a vision for a thriving children's department. The goal of this ministry is to lay the foundations of faith so that each child knows that he/she is a beloved child of God through Jesus Christ. We are also looking for a pastor who will lead today's college, graduate students, and young professionals to do God's work in this modern city. We need a pastor who can help young adults answer the question, "What would Jesus do TODAY?"
The successful candidate will be expected to have the following qualifications:
- Teaching skills (either through job or volunteer work)
- Competent in the interpretation, exposition, and application of Scripture
- Creative (ability to develop interesting programs for children and young adults)
- Works well in collaborative team environment
- Ability to motivate and lead groups
- Communication skills (comfortable with public speaking; strong written skills)
- Strong organizational skills
- Basic computer skills
- Commitment to Jesus Christ and the mission of KMCI will be expected.
(1) Children's Ministry
- Jesus Christ centered individual with experience with children
- Bilingual, Korean and English
- Familiar with 2nd generation Korean-American personal, family, and spiritual needs
- Bachelors degree required, Seminary graduate student or graduate with M. Div preferred.
- Sunday Sermon
(2) Young Adult Group Ministry
- Jesus Christ centered individual with experience with young adults
- Korean language ministry
- Lead Friday Bible study
- Seminary graduate student or graduate with M. Div
- Ability to lead Praise worship preferred
