Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church, a growing, historic congregation in downtown Jackson, Mississippi, is seeking a full-time Director of Children's and Family Ministry position to oversee and give direction for ministries to children from birth to 6th grade and their families. Galloway is a dynamic 2100 member congregation which was first established in 1836. The church is located in downtown Jackson, the capital city of Mississippi, one block from the State Capitol building and Governor's mansion. Galloway has many exciting ministries seeking to meet the needs of a diverse constituency, which includes everyone from business professionals to a vibrant homeless ministry. Galloway believes strongly in its purpose statement which is ‘revealing heaven on earth through the witness of our personal spirituality, congregational ethos, and works of ministry by faithfully following Jesus.'
We seek a Director who will possess strong leadership and management skills, a passion for children, and a vision for a thriving children's department. The goal of this ministry is to lay the foundations of faith so that each child knows that he/she is a beloved child of God through Jesus Christ. The Director will have key relationships with the children and parents of Galloway United Methodist Church; the professional staff and volunteers.
The successful candidate will be expected to have the following qualifications:
-Christ centered individual with experience with children
-Experience in a large church; either as an active member or paid position
-Experience in recruiting and training volunteers
-Teaching skills (either through job or volunteer work)
-Works well in collaborative team environment
-Strong organizational skills
-Communication skills (comfortable with public speaking; strong written skills)
-Creative (ability to come up with interesting programs for children)
-Ability to motivate and lead a team
-Basic computer skills
-Bachelors degree required (preferably in early childhood education or children's ministry)
-Commitment to Jesus Christ and the mission of Galloway United Methodist Church will be expected.
