Job Description:
Basic Functions
The basic purpose of this job is to connect members and regular visitors with the family of God at Riverside United Methodist Church in areas that will promote their spiritual growth and offer them a place in which to use their gifts and abilities. A secondary purpose of this position is to share pastoral duties with the senior pastor in offering spiritual growth to as many as possible.
Major Responsibilities
1. Develop a lay-driven system to welcome, invite, and show hospitality to the first-time and ongoing visitors to our church, seeking to provide or find them a place to call their spiritual home.
2. Develop and birth a system of assimilation of all participants in our church family, especially the visitors and new members to our church.
3. An annual "stewardship of service" emphasis will be organized and conducted by the Coordinator of Congregational Development, to provide current knowledge of the desires and areas of volunteerism and service of the membership. The results of this survey will provide the primary tool for matching people and ministry opportunities.
4. Develop and maintain a system of lay pastors who will each take the responsibility to stay in touch with 12 families throughout the year, being sensitive to their spiritual growth, needs, involvement, and utilization of their gifts in service. The goal is to network the whole church so that needs and involvement of all will be known.
5. Attendance at staff functions is expected and included as a part of scheduled hours of service.
6. Other duties as assigned by Senior Minister.
Personal Qualifications
1. The Director of Congregational Development must have the ability to work well with church members of all ages. The Director of Congregational Development must at all times display a personal commitment that is reflected in a desire to win others to Christ and to lead them into mature discipleship. Wisdom, diplomacy, and humor are vital to this position.
2. The Director of Congregational Development should have experience in the area of member involvement, and the assimilation of volunteers. This staff person is expected to stay informed of the most current trends in these areas of ministry.

Responsible for: The involvement in ministry of visitors, regular attenders, members Responsible to: Senior Minister and Staff-Parish Relations Committee Works Closely with: Senior Minister, Nurture Chairperson, and Evangelism Chairperson.
