Position Description DRAFT
March 24, 2009The primary role of the Director of Worship Ministries (DWM) is overall responsibility for "excellence" in all worship services at Bay Presbyterian Church (BPC). Excellence will be recognized as dynamic and inspiring worship services planned and directed by the DWM, incorporation of appropriate musical forms and selections, and sensitivity to a broad segmentation of worshipers and seekers at the various services. The DWM will understand the two fundamental purposes of worship: first to glorify God, and secondly to edify the congregation.
Background
Our congregation is a diverse body of 2200 members from the greater Cleveland area, with an average age of 47. The majority of our members reside in Cleveland's west-side suburbs, and BPC has a long tradition of ministry focus on children, as well as on missions.
The Director of Worship Ministries must share the theological and spiritual convictions of this evangelical congregation. The DWM should share our commitment to helping each believer develop a deeper, more intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. The DWM should also share our passion to equip and encourage our members to join God in His redemptive work in our community as well as in the world at large.
Each Sunday morning we offer three distinctive worship services: traditional, convergent, and contemporary. Together they draw about 1200 worshipers. Attendance at the traditional service is the smallest, while the convergent and the contemporary services attract 500-600 worshipers each. Approximately 275 children and 140 youth also gather on Sundays.
Worship services are held in our 650 seat sanctuary which was built in 1988. The East side educational wing, which houses Sunday school classes and a weekly pre-school, opened in 1999. In 2007 the basement of the West wing was renovated to welcome the youth of BPC.
