Job Description – Minister of Congregational Care
JOB DESCRIPTION: MINISTER OF CONGREGATIONAL CARE
Position: Full-time, salaried
MAIN OBJECTIVE
In the context of the vision of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, the Minister of Congregational Care equips and develops the congregation in the areas of leadership development, care, counseling and assimilation in the church.
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS
The Minister of Congregational Care should have a heart for knowing God personally, for following Christ as a servant, and for keeping in step with the Spirit. He should have a burden to see St. Luke fulfill God’s plan as it continues to expand and minister in the Humble and Houston area. As a leader and example to the congregation, the Minister should live a life of integrity in growing conformity to the standards of spiritual leadership set forth in Scripture (I Timothy 3:1-7).
QUALIFICATIONS
The Minister of Congregational Care should have the calling, gifts, vocational experience, and educational background necessary to: 1) Lead and equip the people in a ministry of care, 2) develop and implement a strategy to accomplish the vision for the programs, and 3) be able to provide counsel to those in need. Minimally, a Master of Divinity degree or its equivalent from a recognized seminary is required.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Church leadership
• Shares with the other leaders of the church the responsibility to champion the doctrine, mission and the vision of St. Luke, especially as they relate to matters of care.
• Serves Senior Pastor in areas of training and giftedness as requested.
Care Ministry
• Develops the care ministry of the church in light of the vision, goals and values. Regularly communicates to the Congregation the vision and importance of caring for one another.
• Develops and oversees the delivery of care to those in need. Defines initiates and leads the development of new care programs as the needs are identified.
• Provides teaching and training for church leadership (ministers, deacons and ministry leaders) and church staff that enables them to be effective agents of care and assimilation.
• Educates and trains the people of the congregation to care for one another and those in the surrounding community. This includes modeling, teaching, periodic hosting of appropriate seminars.
Assimilation of New Congregants
• Educates the congregation with respect to the needs and benefits of becoming active members of the body.
• In light of our church’s outward focus, develops a process of assimilation that enables newcomers to become integrated into the life, membership and ministries of the church.
Counseling Ministry
• Supervises the counseling ministry of the church, including oversight of St. Luke’s counselors.
