Position Description
The Children's and Family Minister is a newly created full-time position designed to strengthen and further develop the faith of children and their families in our community. We seek a minister who can support families in guiding their children to know, love, serve, share, and worship God in a lifelong relationship with Jesus Christ. The position will oversee and develop new Sunday School programs, worship activities, and special events for the purpose of attracting new members and engaging the church in greater outreach to our community.
We seek a spiritually mature, enthusiastic, and inspiring Christian with a proven track record of success in building and growing a ministry focused on the needs of families. The person should be experienced and comfortable with recruiting, organizing and educating volunteers for this ministry's programs. Desired background includes Bachelor's degree or higher, previous ministry experience, ability to lead or participate in our praise team, and/or play a significant role in some other aspect of corporate worship.
Essential Job Duties/Specific Responsibilities
Design and lead developmentally appropriate, family-focused worship and learning experiences that edify and strengthen the health of relationships within each family unit.
Engage in outreach activities and represent the church effectively in the community.
Build personal relationships with families and children that draw them closer to God and each other. Provide mentoring, guidance, and support to children and parents.
Collaborate with evangelist, elders, deacons, parents, and volunteers to build and create a strong program.
Grow as a disciple through Bible study, prayer, and devotion to Jesus Christ.
While not essential, we would highly value an enthusiastic worship leader or assistant who could select music and/or organize a group of volunteers who participate in our praise team.
Congregational Profile
Westminster Church of Christ is a church family of 120 that began in 1977 and moved in 2002 into a long-awaited new facility on five acres on the highway between Westminster, Maryland and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The church is led by two elders, Mike Justice and Curtis Wasmer and by minister Gary Pearson. About half of the membership has a background in Churches of Christ and Christian Churches with the other half having backgrounds in a wide variety of Christian traditions.
The church has long had a strong commitment to Christian unity and decided in 1985 to be formally identified with both a capella Churches of Christ and instrumental Christian Churches.
