REPORTS TO: Director of Music
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Rehearse and play organ and/or piano for all regular and special worship services.
2. Coordinate worship music in consultation with the Director of Music and the minister serving as music liaison.
3. Accompany weekly rehearsals of the Chancel Choir.
4. Be available and have first option for performing wedding and memorial services of church members and families and other special services, in accordance with the current fee schedule.
5. Accompany extra rehearsals of the Chancel Choir and soloists as needed.
6. Submit titles of music used in the worship services to the church office for timely publication in the bulletin.
7. Assist and advise the Director of Music in the preparation of special concerts, programs, and recitals of sacred and secular music.
8. Assist the Director of Music and the Music Board in the preparation of the music budget as needed.
9. Accompany, as needed, at other events such as retreats and workshops, for which additional remuneration will be paid as negotiated with the Music Board.
10. If unable to play for a Sunday as scheduled, the organist is responsible for notifying the Interim Director of Music and locating a substitute.
11. Work with the Music Director and Worship and Music Board on issues involving the organ.
We have embraced a wide variety of musical expressions and are used to a high level of quality in our music program. Our chancel choir numbers around sixty active members, with a number of trained soloists in the choir. There is room in the budget for bringing in soloists, and there are many capable instrumentalists in the church.
Mandatory characteristics: strong congregational leader on organ; sensitive choral accompanist on organ and piano.
Desired characteristics: versatile performer willing and able to explore different styles, periods and genres on the organ and piano; experience with band or choral direction, music composition and arranging, or youth music also a plus.
Hours: 10 hrs/week, including Thursday evening choir rehearsal, Sunday morning worship services, and occasional meetings.
Salary range: $11,000 - $13,000 depending on extent of responsibilities, experience and expertise. Contract expansions possible depending on skill set.
