TITLE: Director of Children’s Ministry (DCM) EMPLOYMENT: Full Time (including Sundays and some Saturdays) Start Date: As soon as possible ACCOUNTABLE TO: An Associate Pastor for the Session Purpose of this Position To lay the foundations of faith so that each child knows he/she is a beloved child of God through Jesus Christ. The Director will have key relationships with the children and parents of NPC; the professional staff, both pastoral and program, and volunteers. Qualifications The candidate will be expected to have the following qualifications: • Christ-centered individual with experience with children, especially 2 years through 5th grade (either as an educator or parent) • Experience in a large church, either as an active member or paid position • Experience in recruiting and training volunteers; position requires recruiting and training 70+ volunteers • Teaching skills (either through a job or volunteer work) • Works well in a collaborative team environment • Strong organizational skills • Communication skills (comfortable with public speaking; strong written skills) • Creative (ability to come up with interesting programs for the children) • Ability to motivate and lead a team • Basic computer skills (e-mail, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) • Bachelor’s Degree required, graduate work preferable • Commitment to Jesus Christ and the mission of NPC will be expected Duties Required Oversight: • Vision/mission/objectives • Run Children’s Ministry (CM) staff meetings • Session interface • Meet with CM team and sub teams • Hiring and Supervision of CM staff • CM staff personnel reviews • CM staff training/mentoring • CM staff budget responsibility and accountability Communication throughout NPC: • Staff meetings • Children’s Ministry Update (weekly e-mail) • Noroton Notes (weekly bulletin insert) • Spire (monthly newsletter) • Prayer team (organize prayer support for ministries and kids) Ministry “face”: • Noroton Presbyterian Nursery School Chapel (twice weekly) • Elementary Group Worship Sundays (monthly) • Preschool Chapel Sundays (monthly) • Parent interface (including e-mail updates, mailings, etc) • New member instruction and follow-up Oversee Key Ministries: • Sunday school (recruiting volunteers, curriculum selection, training, planning for special days) • Special events (e.g. Advent, living nativity) • Introduce a mid-week program (vision and implementation) • Summer programming • Vacation Bible School Annual Review & Compensation The Director of Children’s Ministry will be reviewed annually by the Associate Pastor and Children’s Team Elder. Compensation will be determined in consultation with the Human Resources Team and the Head of Staff. Starting pay will be $65,000 annually- negotiable based on experience and education.
