Job Description:
PURPOSE: To work closely with the pastoral staff and worship teams to lead the congregation in gathered worship that fulfills our mission and supports our values.
ACCOUNTABILITY: The Director of Worship & Arts is under direct supervision of the lead pastor and will work closely with staff and ministry teams in planning music and other creative expressions appropriate for the theme of each worship service. She/he is also under the supervision of the leadership team and may request a meeting with them at any time pertaining to concerns about the position.
TEAM DEVELOPMENT: There are teams of individuals who plan and facilitate worship at Hope Center. The Director will provide them with input, training, coaching and evaluation for worship development. He/she will work with these groups either directly or by training others to lead and direct them.
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS: The Director of Worship & Arts will be a person actively cooperating with God in the development of Christ’s character in his/her life.
SKILL SET: The director will be a good administrator. She/he will be a leader who will encourage, support and train other leaders. The director will be capable of planning and leading contemporary worship. He/she will be proficient on piano or guitar and will have vocal abilities adequate for leading worship. The director will be able to arrange music and have the ability to chart, transcribe and produce sheet music for musicians and singers. She/he will be a capable coach and teacher for both instrumentalists and vocalists. He/she will also have a “working knowledge” of live sound reinforcement.
WORSHIP SERVICES: Sunday worship services are at 9:00 and 10:45 am. The director will help plan these services well in advance so that each service is in support of the text and theme for that Sunday. The director will also help plan other services including midweek, Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, etc.
WEDDINGS & FUNERALS: The director will be available to provide music for wedding and funerals at the church.
MEETINGS: The director will attend weekly meetings of the staff, weekly meetings with the pastor, weekly meetings of the worship teams and other meetings as necessary.
BUDGET: The director will submit an annual budget request concerning the entire worship and arts ministry as part of the annual ministry planning process. All budget requests are reviewed by the leadership team which ultimately sets an overall budget for the church. The director will operate within the constraints of the approved budget. She/he may request statements from the treasurer concerning the status of the music budget. Any changes to the budget during the year must be submitted to the leadership team for approval prior to any additional expenditure.
FORMAL EVALUATION: The director will receive an annual formal written evaluation by the pastor with input from the worship leaders, ministry team leaders and the leadership team.
