Job Description:
Title – Minister to Youth
Purpose – The Minister to Youth will provide enthusiastic leadership and support to the program and mission of the church with focus on youth, young adults and young families. This position is responsible for outreach to emerging generations and incorporation of young people into the worship, education, fellowship and ministry of the church.
Accountability – Accountable to the Session through the Senior Pastor and Personnel Committee.
Responsibilities A. Develop personal relationship with the youth and young families through: 1. Programs 2. Counseling 3. Special events B. Plan and participate in elementary school, high school and young adult programs: 1. Develop and direct the confirmand course of study 2. Plan and coordinate group activities with the Christian Education Committee 3. Equip and empower lay volunteers in youth ministry 4. Advocate for youth involvement within the life of the church and broader community 5. Research resources and lead program development C. Administration: 1. Work with young people, parents, the Christian Education Committee and advisors to evaluate and develop youth programs 2. Attend weekly staff meetings and monthly Christian Education Committee meetings 3. Prepare a budget for youth activities for approval by the Christian Education Committee and ultimately by Session D. Worship Leadership: 1. Work with Senior Pastor to develop a worship service that focuses on emerging generations 2. Perform other duties involving emerging generations as deemed necessary
Education/Skill Requirements A. Skills: 1. Exhibit and share an enthusiastic and unique Christian faith; being able to articulate a personal connection with God through Jesus Christ 2. Possess good oral and written communication skills 3. Demonstrate good organizational, administrative, and delegation skills 4. Demonstrates ability to work as a team member 5. Have the ability to motivate youth and young adults with subjects that relate to their everyday lives 6. Possess worship leadership skills with special experience in music and technology for reaching younger generations B. Education: 1. College graduate, Bachelors degree required 2. Graduate degree in Theology welcomed and ordination or eligibility for ordination would be of benefit 3. A sincere love of young people, and experience having worked with them is vital
