Job Summary: The Director of Family Ministries and Discipleship is the primary staff leader for all ministries connected with children and families. The purpose of this position is to grow the ministry by creating an easy access path to connection and participation in the life of the church.
Essential Functions
Children and Family Ministries Develop and execute an overall ministry plan for children and families on the MV campus. Provide for an excellent Sunday morning experience to families with children in cooperation with the Sunday School Coordinator. Insure that we continue to welcome and accommodate children with some special needs into our ministries which is an integral part of our Children's Ministry philosophy Develop and implement a Sunday school curriculum that introduces children to the basics of faith, scripture, service, and being part of the church. Provide for an annual Vacation Bible School for Shepherd of the Hills and at our annual YUGO Mexico Mission Trip. Create and implement an ongoing (weekly or bi-weekly) ministry for older elementary students and their families. Provide for discipleship support of families through classes, fellowship, and other group events. Provide for "hands on service" opportunities for families in the church to participate in on an ongoing basis with their children. Develop a system for communication with families about upcoming events and opportunities. Make personal contact and follow up with new families with children on Sunday mornings. Provide for special children's ministry opportunities during the seasons of the church (i.e. Christmas, Easter, etc.) Maintain up to date information for children and families in MyShepherd database. Supervise and support Sunday School Coordinator. Be the connection between the church's preschool families at the MV campus and the congregation so that there is always easy access to participating in the life of our church. Ensures that all volunteers/staff are screened and meet standards for Safe Sanctuaries policies before working with children and youth. Provides coaching and supervision to the Sunday School Coordinator (MV) and the Child Care Coordinator (MV/RSM)
Family Discipleship Creates, oversees, and implements a pathway for families, especially first time guests, at MV to become connected into the life of the church. This is done in cooperation with the Gather Lay Leader (MV) and the Connect Team (MV) under the Gather ministries of the church. Insures that follow up and tracking with first and second time families occurs utilizing the MyShepherd database. Creates opportunities for new families to get plugged into the discipleship pathway of Shepherd of the Hills. Is present on Sunday mornings before and after all services to coordinate welcome systems, make personal connections with guests, and help them navigate their way from the "parking lot" to being part of our church family. Manages and tracks weekly family attendance through the MyShepherd Database
