Applicants should have basic familiarity with the role of music in the Presbyterian/Reformed tradition, possess excellent musical skills both as a pianist and as an accompanist, be versatile in regards to musical style, and be able to take direction and work well with other staff through a spirit of collaboration and creativity. A Bachelor's degree (or higher) in music and at least 2 years of experience as a church pianist/accompanist is preferred. This position is directly supervised by our full-time Music Director, and is also responsible to the Pastor and the Administrative Committee of the Session. The duties of the Pianist include providing piano service music as required for any and all worship services, accompanying/leading congregational hymns when led by piano, accompanying FPC Music Ministry ensembles in rehearsals and worship (including Sanctuary Choir and Chancel Choir on a weekly basis, and Cantata Chorus as scheduled). The Pianist is responsible for accompanying all soloists and other occasional ensembles at the request of the Music Director and/or the Pastor. The Pianist may also be asked to play for weddings and memorial services depending on music staff availability (honoraria). The Pianist works closely with the Music Director and the Pastor, and works in conjunction with the Organist and Assistant Organist/Pianist. The Pianist is expected to attend weekly Music Staff meetings for worship planning and coordination, and if possible, attend weekly FPC Staff meetings as well. Salary Range: $10,000 - 12,000 (based on skill, education, and experience) Work Schedule: Approximately 8 hours per week average, including rehearsals, worship services, meetings, and personal practice time. As in most church jobs, the work load fluctuates depending on the time of year. Vacation: Four weeks paid vacation per year. The Music Director and/or Pastor must approve all vacations. Study Leave: Two weeks per year. Playing for rehearsals during Study Leave is expected, but can be coordinated with the Music Director depending on the type of Study Leave (i.e. an out-of-town conference). Absence from staff meetings and Sunday worship services during Study Leave is expected. Sick Leave: Unavoidable absences due to the illness or death in the family can be arranged with the Music Director and/or Pastor. Extended leave requires approval of the Session.
