As a leader, the Director of Children's Ministry will work directly with parents, staff, and volunteers to create a welcoming and loving faith community where infant through sixth-grade children and their families experience God's love and grow together in their faith in Jesus Christ. The program will be a holistic program, offering opportunities for fellowship, growth, and service. But far from being a place where parents outsource the spiritual growth of their children, the Director of Children's Ministry will work to strengthen parents' role as spiritual mentors and help parents build upon the insight and learning that is taking place in church settings. As a way of growing the church, the Director of Children's Ministries will (a) reach out and build relationships with the families connected with Herndon UMC's Preschool and Upward Basketball program and (b) work collegially with a corps of volunteers to create meaningful programming for community children and their families. Although the position is presently envisioned as a 25-hour-a-week, part-time position, the position could be expanded to a 30-hour-a-week, full-time position if there were a candidate with the right skills and right passion for children's ministry. Total annual compensation and benefits would be commensurate with experience and work schedule.
