Job Information:
1. General Duties and Requirements: Designated staff liaison for all programs and events of the church relating to children and families. Responsibilities are to act as an advocate for children and their needs. The Director should continually lift up the spiritual formation needs of children as a priority to the pastors, professional staff, support staff, boards and committees.
2. Program Management: a) Works directly with the pastor and other administrative staff in developing, implementing, and maintaining Christ-centered programs for children of all ages. This includes but is not limited to such programs as: Early Childhood, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Mid-Week Christian Education programs, pre-Confirmation and a variety of family-centered experiences. b) Recruits, trains and supervises teams of volunteers who provide support for programming needs. Central in that effort is the leadership of a Children and Family Ministry Committee composed of laity and concerned staff who assist in designing programming, approving policy and implementing the vision of the professional staff. c) Provides appropriate curriculum and guidance for educational opportunities relating to children and their parents. Guidance includes the recruitment, training and supervision of adult volunteers, facilitating classroom needs and evaluating effectiveness of programs. d) Works directly with the Finance office in establishing and managing a budget, reviewing expenditures, raising additional funds, and helping to communicate the financial needs of the congregation. e) Serves on the Board of Vinson Morris Children's Center, and coordinates programming with the Directors of Early Childhood, Youth, Adult, Mission and Music departments. f) Responsible for overseeing the safety and security of all children in our care. Proper maintenance of equipment and safety of the classroom environment is a priority.
3. Other Responsibilities: a) Prepares articles for publication in newsletters, brochures and other media. b) Communicates through children's sermons, participation in worship services, and speaking to groups both inside and outside the church c) Remains alert to the needs of individuals, both members and non-members, then shares those needs with the pastoral staff as appropriate. d) Coordinates the training within the congregation for the Safe Sanctuary Program. Works with the Pastor and the Pastor's secretary in providing background checks for individuals working with children.
