Central Presbyterian Church Director of Traditional Music PURPOSE: To serve the Worship ministry of Central Presbyterian Church with a primary emphasis on providing leadership in the planning and implementation of God-honoring choral and instrumental ministries within the Traditional Worship services. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In coordination with the Pastor, the Contemporary Worship Leader, the Organist and the Children's Ministry Leader, develop and conduct a church-wide music program for all ages. Create a music environment that engages the diversity of the congregation in the worship of God. Direct the Senior Choir, the Adult Bell Choir, and the Children's Choirs in the Traditional Worship Service. Oversee the upkeep and maintenance of the church's pianos, organ and handbells. In cooperation with the Contemporary Worship Leader, develop and coordinate special musical/dramatic events such as Ash Wednesday, Easter and Christmas services and other programs. Prepare and monitor the budget for the Traditional Worship music ministry. Administrate music purchases, equipment purchases, and licensing agreements for the Traditional Worship service, choral and instrumental groups. Develop, organize and lead special music events. Plan and oversee special summer music. Seek to expand participation of the congregation in an enhanced choir for special services, such as Christmas and Easter. Expand musical opportunities for outreach, such as Christmas caroling, singing in nursing homes, etc. Encourage greater involvement of youth and adult instrumentalists and vocalists in the Traditional Service. Work with other church staff as an active, collegial team player, including attendance at staff meetings. Meet with the Worship Committee to develop and maintain the Traditional Music Ministry. Supervise and direct the Church Organist. Assume other responsibilities as directed by the Pastor and Session. ACCOUNTABILITY: The Director of Traditional Music reports to the Pastor. EDUCATION: A music related degree from an accredited college is preferred. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to train and direct sacred vocal choirs and hand bells. Possess strong music leadership abilities. Exhibit strengths in communication, teamwork and creativity. PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Deep commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and appreciation for and support of Presbyterian worship. Must have concern for and the ability to work with people of diverse ages and levels of spiritual maturity. COMPENSATION: This is a part-time position with an average of 20 hours per week.
