Apply for This Job Senior Pastor South Shore Baptist Church Hingham, MA Posted: February 04, 2016     Job Information: Church Information: South Shore Baptist Church (SSBC) is an elder led, congregationally governed, reformed, baptistic, and complementarian church located in historic downtown Hingham, MA (approx. 20 miles south of Boston). It has an average Sunday morning attendance of 600. The church holds membership in the Southern Baptist Association (Greater Boston Baptist Association, Baptist Convention of New England) and the Conservative Baptist Association. A new 750-seat sanctuary and accompanying educational space was constructed and opened in 2011. Job description The Senior Pastor has all Elder privileges/responsibilities and reports to the Elders of the church. He is primarily responsible for overseeing the spiritual, strategic, and operational needs of the church, working closely with the elders. His duties include the teaching of Scripture, ministering to the congregation, implementing the vision, supervising the pastoral and office staff, and directing missions and outreach ministries. Preaching - Preaches most Sunday mornings with expositional, Spirit-led preaching of the gospel Pastoral care/spiritual care - provides direct pastoral and spiritual care and counseling within the congregation and also delegates and oversees these responsibilities to other pastors on the staff Strategic Church leadership - works with the Elders to further develop and implement/imbed the vision for the church into the church's culture Conducts weddings, funerals, and provides for the observances of the church ordinances, or delegates to others on the pastoral staff as appropriate Oversee Church Staff o Lead and manage pastoral, ministry, and administrative staff o Responsible for goals, reviews, reporting structure, staff meetings, policies, and other duties in conjunction with the Personnel Committee o Ensure the church's operations and systems are kept current Manage and direct overall church ministry/evangelism initiatives and programs o In concert with the Elders and other pastoral and ministry staff, build an effective methodology for translating church vision and strategy into actionable ministries o Coordinate and integrate overall efforts of church ministries o Coordinate annual budgeting to be reflective of the church's vision o Promote a staff culture that demonstrates harmony, honesty, and servant-leadership. Doctrine and Ministering He must be in agreement with, and embrace, both publicly and privately, the SSBC doctrinal statement, membership covenant, and vision statement. He must embrace SSBC's views of reformed theology, baptism by immersion, complementarianism, understanding of marriage, and congregationalism (Elder led) form of governance. He must exhibit a desire to work with a congregation from varied church backgrounds, while faithfully articulating a biblical vision for Christian life and ministry. He must be able to embrace living and serving in a predominantly "post- Christian" suburban culture. Job Requirements: Candidates are expected to affirm the church's doctrinal statement and vision statement; be committed to expository preaching; hold an MDiv or equivalent (evangelical institution preferred, but not required); have 5+ years experience in church ministry (with at least 3 years in full-time church pastoring); and demonstrate the characteristics of an elder / shepherd as outlined in Scripture (1 Tim 3:2-3, Titus 1:7-8). Ideal candidates will have demonstrable experience in regular preaching / teaching and ministry leadership, as well as some background or familiarity with church planting.
