The Pastor must have a firm understanding of the purpose, values, and strategy of the church and its alignment with ordained and lay staff and key leadership teams. The Pastor will provide pastoral leadership to the congregation in accordance with the church's mission and By-Laws. In addition to congregational leadership, the Pastor will provide administrative leadership by overseeing the mission and direction of the church, and ensuring the systems, practices, and policies of the church support ministry activities.
Duties and Responsibilities The primary pastoral duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to) various tasks in four key areas:
Leading – The Pastor serves as director to ordained and lay staff and volunteers. Works in concert with the church's By-Laws and governing board in executing staffing needs and programs. Communicates the church's goals and objectives to the congregation. Provides leadership in design and implementation of all church ministries.
Proclaiming – The Pastor plans and conducts worship services, prepares and delivers sermons, and leads in observance of ordinances. Shares with other ordained and lay ministers in hospital visitations, home visits, counseling, marriages, and funerals.
Ministering – The Pastor leads the church in effective programs of witnessing and ministering to persons in the church and community.
Administering - The Pastor oversees and executes the church's administration through appropriate staff and lay leadership teams, and ensures the completion of ministry, business, facility and logistical support functions through staff and lay volunteers, in accordance with the church's By-Laws.
Qualifications Pastoral experience is required. Five years or more of service as a pastor, with experience in leading ministries, preaching, teaching, and evangelism, preferably in a Baptist environment.
Education A Bachelor's Degree (4 years of college) is required or a degree from an accredited Baptist Theological Seminary.
