Job purpose
Neighbors in Action is looking for a part-time (15 - 20 hours) Youth Coordinator to lead our programs for our Hispanic teenagers. The ideal candidate is fluent in English and Spanish and has a strong passion for Christ that results in caring for the poor and oppressed, as well as strong intercultural competences.
Duties and responsibilities
Be in charge of NIA youth programs: Wednesday night Bible Study, Thursday night Fellowship time, service projects on Thursday evenings, one service project per month on Saturday Be in charge of summer programs (retreats, camps) Organize outings Go on mission trips with youth Look for new volunteers Coordinate with existing volunteers Keep attendance records for programs Prepare curriculums and lessons for all volunteers Clean center after programs Organize special events, such as field trips, Easter Egg Hunt, etc. Come up with new program ideas Engage with parents, be willing to connect via Facebook Sometimes help with other tasks such as opening the center for adult classes, running errands, etc.
Planned schedule for regular programs:
Wednesdays from 5.30 – 8.00pm Thursdays from 5.30 – 8.30pm One or two Sundays per month: taking teenagers to First Methodist at 9am.
Rest of the hours can be arranged with some flexibility
Planned schedule for summer months (mid June through mid August): - More flexible schedule, depending on week. Must participate and drive kids to different summer camps - Schedule for 4-week VBS mid July – mid August: Monday through Thursday 9am – 1pm. Have Port Houston teenagers involved in activities - Go on retreats with teenagers - Host outings for teens during summer going to Bible study for teenagers, and Cathy has joined a church after
Qualifications
Passion for ministry to teenagers Be 21 or older Fluent in Spanish and English Intercultural competences Growing relationship with Jesus Christ evidenced by action, attitude, and behavior. Ability to fully embrace the vision and values of Neighbors in Action Proven expertise in administration Reliable, trustworthy, self starter, and excellent at following through on details Possess the ability to use appropriate judgment, discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality Proven leadership skills utilizing a cooperative, collaborative team leadership style Possessing strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain healthy and motivating
Working conditions
The candidate has to be able to work on evenings on a regular basis and to work on weekends occasionally. Must be flexible to different schedule during summer months. Driver's License is required. Candidate is welcome to bring his/ her own children to the programs.
