OVERVIEW
Shades Mountain Independent Church is a non-denominational, elder-led church located in Birmingham, Alabama. We are a multi-generational, 500-member congregation committed to loving God with all we are, loving our neighbors with gospel intentionality, and growing together in love through Christ-centered community. We value God-exalting worship, verse-by-verse exposition of the Bible, Scripture-based prayer, life-on-life discipleship, global missions, every member a minister, and every member a missionary in our community.
ROLE SUMMARY
We are looking for a Worship Minister who has a personal passion for worship (A Lead Worshiper), a pastoral calling to lead God's people to respond to him through Christ-centered worship (A Faithful Shepherd), and a developed ability to identify, equip, and release gifted people and teams into worship ministry (A Visionary Leader).
QUALIFICATIONS
Personal: A growing relationship with Jesus Christ that is marked by personal intimacy with Christ and everyday discipleship
Pastoral: Fulfills the qualifications of an elder as outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1
Doctrinal: Agreement with SMIC doctrinal statement as outlined on website
Education: Master of Divinity preferred but will consider candidates with Bachelor's depending upon experience and ability
Experience: Experience leading blended worship in a multi-generational setting; will have a heart for old and new, for hymns and modern worship, and will be able to lead the body in God-centered, Christ-exalting, heart-engaging, responsive worship
Skills: Able to plan and execute engaging worship services; competent vocalist and pianist or guitarist – a true musician (preferred); able to recruit and develop people as fellow lead worshipers and collaborative team members
Technology: Working knowledge of various computer programs (we currently use Planning Center Online) and multi-media resources (sound, lighting, and video)
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESShepherding
Will make the spiritual development of his family a top priority
Will actively invest in those directly in his care in the worship ministry; as a member of the ministerial staff, will also provide pastoral leadership and general pastoral care to the larger SMIC community
Will be a "good news" pastor who makes much of Jesus Christ, and will plan and execute weekly worship services that lead others to trust and treasure Jesus Christ more
Will execute worship services that connect with and engage people as active participants (not passive recipients of a performance); will exhibit pastoral leadership from the platform thereby actively shepherding people to see, to savor, and to sing of God's greatness and grace
Leadership
In partnership with the Senior Pastor and other staff leaders, will contribute to the "big picture" by providing clear, compelling, visionary direction and leadership to the worship ministry and the church-at-large
Will be the point of contact for weekly worship services and worship-related events that fall outside normal Sunday services; will oversee the planning of services, musical selection, praise teams, musicians, choirs, scheduling, media, technology, drama, and all other creative components of the worship ministry
Will recruit, equip, and encourage a wide variety of gifted servants and teams – vocalists, praise teams, bands, and choir; will lead those involved in the worship ministry to embrace and execute a vision for congregational worship that exalts Jesus Christ and promotes the unity of the body
Will provide creative direction to stage design/layout in auditorium and other venues; will oversee the technical and media resources used by the church with attention given to the identification and training of volunteer technical personnel for audio, lighting, and media
Will choose songs wisely considering their content, musical accompaniment, and sing ability
Will effectively schedule, manage, and execute productive and engaging rehearsal times
Will seek to cultivate a new generation of lead worshipers by equipping the church's children and youth to lead in worship
Administration
Will coordinate and manage people and resources related to weekly worship teams and media ministry in cooperation with other staff members
Will meet weekly with other staff for worship planning
Will attend all staff meetings and be a team player who champions and owns the priorities of the whole and of ministries besides his own
Will prepare and execute an annual ministry plan and budget
