Position Description:
The Worship Pastor is the primary worship leader. He will exhibit a heart for authentic worship, and be comfortable leading both contemporary and blended musical styles. Responsibilities will include planning, preparing, and leading weekend worship services; equipping musicians and vocalists. This position will require strong musicianship, shepherding, and leadership skills, along with the ability to recruit, train, and manage volunteers serving in various related ministry areas such as Audio/Visual Production, Video Production and Media Promotion. As a pastor, this individual will be responsible to shepherd those on the worship team and be able to provide pastoral care as needed.
Ministry Setting:
New Hope Fellowship is a vibrant growing church of 220+ in Sun City West, AZ. We are affiliated with the EFCA. Although we are in a retirement community, this is no “rocking-chair-retirement-community.” Our people are actively involved in ministry and missions. We have a well-defined philosophy of ministry rooted in the word of God, and focused on disciple-making. We are aggressively reaching ‘Boomers’ in the area who are moving into the pre-retirement/retirement phase of life. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead worship through voice and instrument during weekend services and special occasions, including appropriate rehearsals
Provide oversight of all other worship elements throughout the church
Plan weekend worship services, including song selection, in partnership with the Senior Pastor
Oversee and manage various related teams including: Audio/Visual Production, Video Production, and Media Promotion
Recruit, develop, and mentor volunteer instrumentalists, vocalists, and other worship team members
Develop and lead a worship ministry team that fosters good communication and a strong sense of community among all musicians and vocalists
Perform other pastoral duties as needed including shepherding, discipleship, counseling.
Qualifications/Requirements/Competencies
Meet the qualifications of a pastor as found in 1 Timothy 3
Strong musicianship with a high level of proficiency in either keyboard or acoustic guitar, and vocals; including an understanding of music theory.
Align with the doctrine, style, and philosophy of ministry of New Hope Fellowship
Exemplify a heart for worship and possess a fully developed theology of worship
An appreciation of classic traditional hymns and of classic contemporary worship music; an ability to effectively blend the two styles
Ability to draw and engage both Builder and Boomer generations to worship in spirit and truth
Possess the heart of a pastor which includes ability to shepherd all those on the various worship teams and other members of the congregation
Proven ability to recruit and mentor volunteers, build and lead teams, and delegate and grow future leaders
Ability to interact in a team environment, be inclusive of other people's gifts and opinions, model humility and respect for others ideas.
Education/Training/Experience
7-10+ years ministry experience in the local church
Experience leading contemporary worship
3-5+ years in a pastoral or shepherding role
Note: this is a part-time position, with strong potential to become full-time.
