Message:Help!! The pastor of our very traditional Southern Baptist church has asked that we begin a blended service format. I have begun by doing a contemporary call to worhip, followed by a praise & worship song, then sticking with our more traditional hymns for the remainder of the service. Our choir members are mostly supportive and have been very open minded when I present new praise and worship music for us to learn. The congregation however, is not as responsive, to say the least. There are times when I am sure they were tied up and dragged to church!! ;) I have been encouraging the choir to "loosen up" a bit and sing from their hearts, rather than just what is on the page, hoping the congregation will reflect this as well. It just isn't happening yet. At our choir practice last Sunday, I asked that everyone get on their face before the Lord this week and pray that we are doing this in His time, and His way. I would love to have a full worship team, rather than a choir, but I really don't see that happening right now. We have only a few strong singers, and only one trained musician besides myself. I have thought about bringing down a couple of the stronger singers to the front and giving them mics to help lead during the P & W portion of the service. Can a praise and worship "atmosphere" and a traditional service really be blended successfully? HOW???? Thanks for your help! In Christ, Beth
