After reading all of the postings, I feel encouraged. I am currently serving as the first and so far only Worship Team Leader in our church. My pastor was the one to approach me to serve in this position, but with some limitations. When I took over the ministry (after our Music Director stepped down because he was opposed to Praise Music in Worship), I was told that I would be responsible for setting up the services (songs, powerpoints, sheet music, etc.), but that I could not lead the worship, because our church was not ready for a woman music leader. So the leaders of our church had a man lead the worship. To his disadvantage, he was really not able to lead the worship team, because he didn't put the services together and it was hard for him to work with a woman in a position of leadership also. To say the least, it has been a very challenging 6 years. In February, after much prayer, my husband and I felt that it was time that I stepped down as the Worship Team Leader. I presented my resignation to our Board and stated that the Lord was leading us in ministry elsewhere in the church. When I presented my resignation, the church approached the music leader because he was unable to fulfill the requirements of both positions combined. So needless to say he was very hurt and he resigned. After almost 10 months, I am serving still as the Worship Team Leader, but I cannot lead the worship because it might offend the congregation. Our board is seeking another person to fill both positions combined, but the Lord has not sent anyone as of yet.

Now we are all taking turns on our Worship team and leading a song or two for the Worship. The atmosphere is much better without the tension, but I am lead to believe that we still need one leader.

The position was not a paid one and it is a full-time position and the board will be looking for someone who can read and play msusic to take my place along with the other organizational things that we need done.

I guess what I am asking for is prayers, because I have learned obedience and service in this position, but I would hate to see us fall back after it has taken us 6 years to gain some wonderful ground for the Lord.

Your prayers are appreciated.
