Our Minister of Music approached me at the beginning of the year and said he wanted me to lead worship in 2002. He said nothing else just that. I was kinda looking for some follow-throug, direction, transition steps etc. but he just left it at that. I subsequently joined the corporate worship Praise Team in preparation for leading corporate worship. I have served as the Worship Leader for our Women's Retreat and feel comfortable in small settings, but admittedly feel a little apprehensive about leading during corporate worship. I joined the corporate worship praise to get a better understanding of what was really going on with the Praise Team. Were they worshippers? Did they desire to be in relationship with God? Or were they just singing - as a time filler before Pastor cam einto service?
What I found was that the Praise Team is kind of a mishmash of choir members who stand in front of the congregation and sing.
We do not rehearse as a team and barely meet to have prayer before service. The Minister of Music and Musician (who is responsible for sthe Praise Team - sort of ) have made no moves to bring the Praise Team and Worship Leaders ( there are several) on one accord i.e. rehearsals, teachings on Worship etc.) I am not comfortable at all in leading worship on a team that is not on one accord. I recently read the excerpt of "Experiencing Worship" and have purchased the study - to be used in a Bibly Study series on "worship" in preparation for this year's Women's retreat where I will serve as Worship Leader. I really believe that our corporate worship - praise team and overall praise & worship ministry can benefit from a worship study and an opportunity to be on one accord concerning How-To worship God.
Any suggestions on how to approach the minsiter of music/musician in charge? Or should I just led worship and pray that all things will work out? Is it necessary for the praise team and worship leader to be onthe same page/level of understanding concerning worship?
