Re: Question
I would suggest that you spend some major quality/quantity time with God, draw in a few trusted prayer warriors, and do battle through prayer first. Without the acknowledgement of your worship team that you are leader and call the shots, a spirit of true worship will not be what you are conveying - but a spirit of dissension. It's unfortunate that you don't have a senior pastor to stand with you, but if he has given you the authority, then you need to take control before the situation escalates. I would suggest a one-on-one in a neutral place with the drummer, and listen to what he is saying. Usually, if you are on the same page, most differences can be resolved this way. At some point, you need to have a meeting with your worship team and reiterate your responsibility to the team as the leader. We had an unfortunate experience with an extrememely talented band member a few years ago, and finally he left the team when he realized that he was to be part of the team and not the leader because of his talent. Our worship pastor had to stand in the authority of his position and not let it destroy what we were trying to accomplish on Sunday morning. There was such a sweet sense of relief when he finally left. Even though he was a new Christian, it felt like the devil was using his talent to bring discord within the team.Good luck!
Good luck!
