Message:I want to approach our brand-new music minister for a job as an alto soloist. I have had solo jobs in other churches, but they asked me, I didn't ask them. I have a broad background in music (opera, jazz, etc.) and a four octave range. Here's my quandry: I've welcomed him warmly to the church and want him to know how sincerely glad we are that he is here. However, I don't want to give the impression I was only being nice in order to get a job. How can I best approach him? What can I say? I plan to give him my headshot and resume and cd, but what should I say in the cover letter? Should I first approach him personally? Should I drop off the resume and cd, or mail it? Should I specifically say I would like a job in our church, or should I say if he hears of a job in town, I'd appeciate it if he gave me a lead? The main thing is I want to be polite and professional. Thank you for your help & God bless.
