Re: Traditional and Comtemporary Church Services
Message:Hello! I am a Music Minister in a church and was born and raised in the Nazarene church. I am 29 years old and absolutely LOVE the old hymns of the church. In my church, that seems to be a rarety. However, we have a blended worship service with one song leader (myself). A lot of newer churches think they can't grow without contemporary music and I disagree with this. Our church plant started in 1972 with 15 people. We grew to 400 people by 2001! Praise God! During this growth period, we didn't sing one contemporary song. I believe that we grew on the teaching of the truth of the gospel. Just in the past year, we have began the blended worship service which I think is helpful for the youth in our congregation. However, I will not lead any contemporary choruses that can be sung as a "love" song to my wife, child, etc. I use only songs that reference God. I believe that we are in a society that thinks we have to bring the world into the church in order to win souls for Christ. I think we have that backwards. We need to be portraying the truth in the world!
