Message:Our Anglican church now uses an old Evangelical hymnal with the parts noted in SATB and the lyrics between the soprano and bass staves, where they belong for good singing. However, our chaplain would like a hymnal with hymns which pay more attention to the liturgical seasons. I've had a look at some Jubilate hymnals, which I am very unhappy with, not only because the annotation makes singing in parts extremely difficult, but also because the attempts at making hymns sound contemporary make them difficult to sing (I think the harmonizations are usually geared toward instrumentalists). Does anyone know of a good hymnal, less than $20, that is a bit liturgical (like will have hymns for Lent, not necessarily Anglican ... can be Lutheran, Presby, Methodist), has annotation correct for SATB singing and doesn't play around too much with the harmonizations? This would help our congregation a great deal! Our congregational singing sounds better than a lot of church choirs and if we go to the Jubilate hymnal this will be all over, we'll have to sing monotone again.
