Message:I would like some views on Traditional worship. One question concerns the "Hallelujah" Chorus from Handel. Recently, On a sunday where the focus was the ressurection and the hymns were triumphant. I had my choir do the Hallelujah chorus for their anthem. As far as I was concerned, I felt that this was a piece that expressed a profound statement of faith for the choir and the congregation. Imagine my suprise when the senior pastor (who normally doesn't get involved) was dismayed by the choice of anthem and the reason being was because he thought the Hallelujah chorus has become secularized and really belongs in a symphonic hall. That being said, I find that I have to struggle everytime Advent rolls around because he and other staff members want Christmas carols during the season of Advent, and I find this quite secular. That being said he didnt mind when we did "Lift up ye Heads" from "Messiah". Which I believe is much more difficult. He says that the "Hallelujah" chorus is too much for a service of worship. Yet, the flow of worship, in my opinion, remained intact. I am not writing this in hopes of a "bashing the pastor" session. I would love to have input on the situation.
