Message:I disagree. Acoustical panels may not help at all. They may make it worse. You need to have an acoustical engineer look at your room. It is the combination of the room's height, length, width, construction and boundary surfaces that determine the reverb time, standing waves, flutter echo, etc.Acoustical panels are generally made for diffusion and absorbtion. The absorbtion that they provide is for high frequencies. So, if you install enough of those, your room will be muddier, as the highs are dampened. Diffusors are good for side walls and back walls where there is a short throw. Mounting them on the side wall will reduce flutter echo. The issue is that your room was not designed for the music generated. You are not going to be able to change the room. Most architects (or church building committees) don't understand that is you design and build the room right, you won't need much PA, and the sound will be coherent.
