The problem you have is very common. The best way to take care of the echo is to instal a suspended ceiling but a lot of the time you can't because of the way it looks or it's just not practical to do it. The nexted best way to contro; an echo is to install Acoustic wall panels around the room mounted near the top of the wall. Panels have a "NRC" rating (noise reduction coefincent) a .70 NRC means 70% of the sound that hits the panel is absorbed. You can buy ready made panels from Armstrong call "Optima" or "Painted Nubby" both panels come in versions of 1.00 NRC they cost about $2.50 a square foot. You can buy them from us and we will ship them to you or find a local guy around you, although very few people stock them. There are other options that look nicer but cost more.
