It was a man made idea. When Abram met Melchizedek in Genesis 14:17-24 he gave him what he had made as a "vow" unto GOD. That happened to be a tithe. In Deuteronomy 23:21, we are told, "When thou shalt vow a vow unto the LORD thy GOD, thou shalt not slack to pay it: for the LORD thy GOD will surely require it of thee; and it would be sin in thee." Thus if you made a "vow" to tithe, then it is not yours to decide how to use! If on the other hand in your church or fellowship you have all things in common then you are free as GOD leads you. In that case you would be able to go out and make the purchase of the items. The question is; what is required of you? A tithe or a gift according to GOD's leading?
