Women in Worship by Darlene Thorne Worship Leader, EXW Contributor July 17, 2007
Quiet time could refer to those precious moments after the kids are in bed, but for Christians, a quiet time is more than that. Quiet time, or devotion time refers to our daily appointment with God, when we shut out as much outside interference as possible. During our quiet time, we may sing praise songs, pray, read scripture or some devotional book, meditate on a particular passage of scripture or just be still and allow yourself to listen. Now let me say this making the appointment is one thing, but keeping it is something totally different! We face a couple of challenges in spending time with God. One of the challenges comes from the outside and the other resides on the inside.
We face the challenge of outside distractions, the television, radio, phone and conversations in general. Making time for daily meeting with God is critical!
If we stop to think about it for a moment, we recognize that we live in enemy-occupied territory, so constructing an ideal spiritual surrounding can be next to impossible. Satan, our arch enemy does not want us to get a quiet time with God, so he makes that his assignment to keep us from getting to be alone with the Father. Satan knows that if we get to spend time with the Lord, we will have ammunition to defeat him. As we spend time with God we grow to become more like Him and the enemy hates that.
Whenever you find it hard to get time with God, realize who is really behind the struggle and remember who is greater!
Another distraction comes from the inside. Do you ever notice that when you sit down to read the word or pray that these out of the blue thoughts come flooding through your brain? You have to wash the car, you have an important phone call to make or you have to buy dog food. Why do you think of these things at that point in time? Again the inner struggle to unwind and be still continues.
Experiencing Worship, The Study
Used by churches all over the world to help teach worship, the Experiencing Worship study can help your worship team too.
Your team will learn why we worship and gain a better understanding of how to worship.
One user said..."Your 5 week study course has made a tremendous impact on my life in the study of worship... I would like to express my thanks for a well written study course that leads into a higher realm of praise and worship."
