Every Christian, no matter your denomination or the size of your Bible encounters enemy activity in some area of our lives. Regardless of how long we have walked with the Lord, our enemy, the devil, constantly stands against any facet of God's spiritual authority. When I did some research into the word "enemy" I found out there are at least 4 different uses of it in scripture; but the common denominator seemed to be opposition. From beginning to end the Word of God makes references to those who faced opposition from the devil himself, or from people who stood in opposition to God's vessel.
We just concluded a revival at my church that focused specifically on the family, and the different ways the devil will attack the family unit. The speaker did not leave, though, without telling us how to stand, or face down, the enemy of our marriages and families. He talked about binding and loosing, and calling demonic spirits by name. according to where they have chosen to operate. How do you face down the enemy attacking your finances, your marriage, on your job, the relationship you have with your children, in your ministry, and a host of other areas of human endeavor? When the enemy boldly tempted Jesus in the wilderness, Jesus just as boldly faced him down with the Word of God. The prophet Elijah found himself facing down the enemy in the person of Jezebel. Elijah remained true to the mission God had assigned to him, and kept prophesying. When Nehemiah went back to rebuild the wall at Jerusalem he faced very real and intentional opposition. But he kept working - sometimes with a weapon in one hand and a tool in the other. King Jehoshaphat faced down the enemy with prayer and praise. He and all of Judah praised God ON THE WAY to the battle ground. As they did so, God set ambushments against their enemies, who all rose up against, and destroyed one another.
Are you facing the devil himself or a person (or situation) operating in conjunction with him? I hope our reference text above will guide you. Begin to stand up in your authority as a child of God and plead the blood of Jesus. Then line up your words with scripture. In other words, don't always tell God about your battle - He already knows what you're facing. Begin to tell your battle about God, and His ability to bring you out of your dilemma. Face down the enemy with praise and with worship. Don't just think it, speak it! The enemy can't read your thoughts, but he can hear what you say! I challenge every reader to call out the enemy. God has given you authority (Luke 10:19), and you hold the keys to your deliverance.
