Survive Your Brokenness With Worship

2 Sam 12:19-20 . . .Then he went to the Tabernacle and worshiped the Lord.

On the surface, brokenness is not a good thing. But a closer look can lead you to God. Brokenness can take on many forms, but the feeling is just about the same. Sometimes we have to be broken from being impatient; some of us need to be broken of self-pride; others must learn to love others. I believe God uses our brokenness to bring us closer to Him, and bring us back into His presence. We are always in His abiding presence because He is omnipresent, but it is His manifest presence that I'm referring to. Brokenness has a cleansing property to it; in other words God can use our brokenness to see what's really on the inside of us - what's really in our hearts. In our brokenness God can examine our motives, to see if they are pure or not. But if we handle our brokenness right, it can lead to power.

David was a broken man when the child conceived in an adulterous relationship lay dying. After the child died, David worshiped God. Hannah's heart broke every time Peninnah taunted her because she had not yet given birth to a child. But when God did open her womb and give her a son who would become a prophet of Israel, Hannah praised God (I Sam 2:1-2). Job was left with his life, and a wife whose remedy for her husband's pain was "curse God and die," but he still blessed God (Job 1:21).

If you are going through a period of brokenness, of whatever nature, maybe God is trying to tell you something. Maybe God has a word He wants you to get in this experience. You will survive this season of brokenness through your worship. Yes, you're in pain; yes, you have questions that seem to have no answers; okay, you feel helpless. But there IS something you can do - get in God's face in worship. Let God know you know He is still God and that He still loves you. Love on Him, spend time with Him, talk to Him, bless Him, keep your mind on Him. There is a way out of your brokenness. And the sooner you get into God's presence in true, heart-felt, Holy Spirit-controlled worship, the sooner you will see things a little clear from God's perspective.
