Hi Sherri,The word "confess" is the Greek work "Homologeo" (transliterated). It is translated:
1) to say the same thing as another, i.e. to agree with, assent, to concede, not to refuse, to promise not to deny
2) to confess, declare to confess, i.e. to admit or declare one's self guilty of what one is accused of
3) to profess to declare openly, speak out freely
4) to profess one's self the worshipper of one
to praise, celebrate
Our “confession” of Christ brings glory to our God and is worship. Based on this principle, I led a worship service solely on confession. We focused on letting people stand up and tell what good things God was doing in their lives or how God worked to save them (although I needed to coach people to declare the work of God rather than their own human brokenness and strength). At the end of this "worship" time, we all recognize that God had inhabited His praise. I did this to teach on the worship style of confession and to show that evangelism is worship.
Thanks for your devotional and the reminder of different worship forms.
Yours in Christ
John
